Quick Summary of the Harry Potter Story.

Harry Potter lives in a town called Little Whinging with his aunt, uncle, and cousin- the Dursleys. At the young age of 11 years old, Harry Potter discovered that he is born a wizard, despite him living in the ordinary world of non-magical folks called the Muggles. In the Harry Potter universe, the wizarding world exists in parallel with the Muggle world but is hidden from the Muggle themselves. Harry Potter’s inborn magical abilities made him qualified to attend an exclusive magic school in the wizarding world.

Harry successfully becomes a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a hidden wizard academy in Scotland. It is here that most of the events of the novel take place. In this same academy, Harry learned magical abilities, gained friends, and overcame obstacles and challenges. Each of the seven books describes Harry’s life every year as he progresses from schooling in the academy.

Eventually, Harry met a half-giant named Rubeus Hagrid, his first contact in the wizarding world. Hagrid, later on, revealed himself as the Keeper of Keys and Grounds of Hogwarts, sharing some of Harry Potter’s history, especially with his parents. Harry learned that his parents were murdered by a dark wizard called Lord Voldemort who attempted to kill him as well when he was an infant. However, Harry miraculously survived this attempt, leaving a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead. Voldemort disappeared afterward and was greatly weakened by his curse after attempting to kill Harry.

Because of this, Harry became a prominent figure in the wizarding world. During Harry Potter’s second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (from the second book, The Chamber of Secrets), he and his friends tried to investigate a sinister event that is happening at their school. During this time, Ginny Weasley, Ron’s younger sister, enrolled as a freshman in the school and discovered an old notebook that belongs to a previous student named Tom Riddle. Later on, it was revealed that Tom Riddle is Voldemort’s younger self, and his memories reside within the diary ordering Ginny to open the Chamber of Secrets to unleash an ancient monster, the Basilisk. Harry and his friends later on successfully fought the Basilisk and destroyed the diary, saving Ginny in the process.

In the third book, Harry met his father’s best friends, Sirius Black, the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Remus Lupin, a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. It is here that Harry has known that Sirius Black was framed by another friend of their father, Peter Pettigrew, who had been hiding as a pet rat named Scabbers. In the succeeding books, the story is centered on the return of Voldemort and his attempt to take Harry Potter’s life once more. In the fourth book, the Goblet of Fire, Voldemort used the ongoing wizard tournament to bring Harry Potter to him. While he succeeded in doing so, Harry managed to escape but Voldemort manages to return to the wizarding world with a physical body.

The battle against Voldemort continues in the fifth book, Order of the Phoenix, where Voldemort resurfaced and became known to Dumbledore, prompting him to reestablish the Order of the Phoenix. The first name to appear within the order is Sirius Black, for his family pledged an oath to defeat Voldemort’s minions and protect against the dark wizard’s targets, particularly Harry, while working behind the shadows. The Ministry of Magic still refused to accept that Voldemort returned to their world. Instead, they removed Dumbledore from his position and replaced him with another Hogwarts Inquisitor. In the preceding events, Harry started to receive disturbing visions about the dark corridors of the Ministry of Magic, which entices him to learn more about it. Harry then suddenly received visions of the plans of Voldemort. He was tricked into seeing images of Sirius Black being tortured by the minions of the dark wizard which prompts him and his friends to rush to the Ministry of Magic where an ambush of Voldemort’s followers awaits. The Order of the Phoenix arrived in time to save Harry and his friends but Sirius Black was killed in the process.

In the sixth book, the Half-Blood Prince, Voldemort started his open war against the Ministry of Magic. Harry took the time to study more magics with Dumbledore in secret. In this chapter, Draco joined the Death Eaters and was tasked to assassinate Dumbledore. As they arrive at where Dumbledore and Harry were, Professor Snape interrupted the assassination attempt by killing Dumbledore himself. Harry witnessed the killing of his mentor, and in anger, followed Snape and the Death Eaters as they escape the castle. Snape confronted Harry and easily blocked the spells thrown at him. He, later on, revealed that he is the half-blood prince. The reason why he killed Dumbledore was not revealed until the final book.

The final book, Deathly Hallows concludes the story of the Harry Potter saga. In this time, Voldemort and his Death Eaters already controlled most of the wizarding world. Snape replaced Dumbledore as Headmaster of Hogwarts, while other Death Eaters became staff. As the story progresses, it was revealed to Harry the true nature of Snape when he foresees Snape’s past in a vision he released before he died. With these memories, Harry was provided the information he needs to defeat Voldemort.

Harry exclaimed that Dumbledore’s death had long been planned by Snape who secretly works for the Order of the Phoenix and that the Elder Wand’s power is planned to die with him, transferring the authority over the Elder Wand to Harry. The two wizards cast powerful spells against each other, with Harry attempting to disarm Voldemort, and the latter trying to murder him. The Elder Wand, however, refused to cause harm to its new master and flipped over to its rightful owner. The Killing Curse hit Voldemort, killing him in the process and ending the Second Wizarding War, freeing the rest of the wizarding world from Voldemort’s control.
