About Genasi Race

Genasi are planetouched beings who are basically human in appearance, though their elemental power can be seen in some of their features. Their skin and hair tend to show the color of their elemental power; water genasi have green or blue skin, fire genasi have red skin, air genasi have pale blue skin and earth genasi have grey skin. Their hair can be similarly colored but can also be a manifestation of their elemental power. Water genasi can have fluid tendrils of water flowing from their head. Fire genasi can have dancing flames in place of hair. Air genasi can have hair that dances in an unseen wind. Earth genasi can have stone or crystals where humans have hair.

Genasi are more or less similar in size and stature to humans, though air and fire genasi tend to be slimmer and lighter, and water and earth genasi tend to be heavier and broader. Some genasi can pass for human, others have too much of their element showing. Some genasi have szuldar which are lines of glowing energy in the color of the element stretching like a web of lightning across their skin. This is typically rare.

Genasi, unlike other planetouched races, revel in what makes them different. They are typically self-assured and confident, even to the point of arrogance, and always see themselves as equal to any task put in front of them. This can lead them to push themselves beyond reasonable boundaries and take unnecessary risks.

The genasi have no culture of their own given than they are borne of two separate races, so they adopt the culture of whatever people they’re born into. Most genasi do not know their djinn ancestors as the djinn normally see their genasi offspring as mistakes and want nothing to do with them. Some genasi do venture to the elemental planes to seek a life there; they can bear the elemental pressures of their native plane that would be deadly to humans.

Genasi are, perhaps above even tieflings and aasimar, feared for their otherworldly appearance. They are arguably the most alien of the planetouched races, especially those in whose features the elemental power is especially obvious, like those with szuldar lines. For this reason, genasi tend to be distrusted by humans. Despite this, they remain true to their nature and moreover are proud of their elemental heritage. They remain lofty and tranquil in the face of human animosity.

Genasi have an extraordinary ability to adapt and an openness to change; to a genasi, change is not something to be feared but rather to be welcomed. They are also well known for their ambition and their drive to leave a legacy. Genasi want to make something of themselves and will persevere until they achieve their goals because of this.

Genasi are exceptionally rare creatures who might go their whole lives without seeing another of their kind. When they do, however, they treat them as family and often call other genasi brother or sister to acknowledge their common heritage. For beings who grow up so apart from the people around them, it is comforting to meet another of their kind who has had the same experiences and difficulties.

Genasi speak the language of their native region and may also learn the language of the elemental plane their power comes from. Their names are usually in Common, either coming from the culture they grew up in or a name to reflect their elemental abilities.
